February 2010 Laptop Program

The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners is again pleased to announce that candidates will be permitted to use their personal laptop computers and Software Secure’s Securexam® software to word-process answers to the essay portion.

1.  Create an Account:  The registration procedure will require applicants to create an account at the registration site, provide contact information and a valid credit card. An e-mail will be sent to everyone who applied for the program.  NOTE:  The account you create to register for the program will be used throughout the process, including the day of the exam.  It is your responsibility to check the account and respond to any e-mails. 

2.  Download Software/Upload Qualification Exam:  All registrants will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to download the software, take practice exams, and upload the qualification exam to Software Secure to verify that the software is running properly on their computer.  A Release of Liability form will be attached to the e-mail.  Sign, notarize and mail the form to the Board of Bar Examiners by February 1, 2010.  If any of these steps are not followed, your seat will be forfeited.  

3.  List Posted:  A list of candidates eligible to use their laptop will be posted on our website.  If you were notified that your Qualification Exam has been confirmed for the laptop program, be sure to check the list for your ID Number.  If your number is not listed and you completed step 2 above, please contact the Board of Bar Examiners. 

4.  Uploading Essays:  The deadline for uploading your essays will be Friday, February 26, 2010 at 4:00 pm.  If you fail to meet that deadline, you will be imposed with a $100 administrative fee.   

5.  Testing Accommodations:  Candidates applying for testing accommodations who wish to use a laptop for their essays MUST enter the program.
